Top Bars in Barcelona

A big hello to all the wine-lovers of Barcelona and beyond! It’s Gabby here, owner of Wine Fantasy Barcelona, and long-time lover of Spanish wine. I’ve been living and working in this amazing city since 2021, and in that time I’m delighted to have sampled a huge number of Barcelona’s best wine and tapas bars. As you’d expect, I’ve also worked out a few favorites, and I’m here now to share my top bars in Barcelona with you.
Top Bars Barcelona
It’s not always about the perfect pairing in these bars. Instead, it’s about the quality of wine served, and enjoying the kind of relaxed atmosphere that Barcelona’s wine and tapas bars are famous for. The bars listed below all serve up delicious food, they all support the local Catalonia wineries I know and love, and they’re all an absolute pleasure to visit.

Extra Bar

This dynamic 15-seater gastro bar is a 2-man show nestled in Barcelona’s buzzing Gràcia neighborhood. Marc, the guy in charge of the wines, always keeps things fresh in Extra Bar – with an ever-changing wine and food list with glasses and plates to suit all tastes. His keen interest in wine means you’ll always find something new, and the delicious tapas is all made from scratch.
This intimate, upbeat wine bar doesn’t take reservations. The window is the best seat in the house, or perched on a stool at the bar, and you’re guaranteed a good time!

Bar El Pepino

This trendy Barcelona wine bar boasts gorgeous decor and a huge selection of wine by the bottle and glass. At Bar El Pepino the focus is on natural wine, and owner Juan Luc does an amazing job at selecting trendy wines from around the world.
You’re sure to be impressed by the light and zesty menu, and the cutest glasses to enjoy your wine in. I tried a lighter style red wine which paired perfectly with my polenta fries and zesty clams. The food presentation is as gorgeous as the venue.

Champagne MOOC

La Vinya del Senyor is a classic Barcelona tapas bar, and a must-visit for anyone looking for a truly authentic experience. The bar sits in front of the Santa Maria del Mar church, with a small outside seating area and one tiny table for 2 up a flight of narrow quaint old stairs.
The wine list here is more of a book than a list, with easily over 500 options to choose from. You can choose wine from around the world, and they have a fine selection of Sherry from Jerez. I find you can’t go wrong with a glass of Spanish sparkling wine by the glass, and it pairs well with everything! The tapas here are classic Barcelona wine bar style; definitely try the pan con tomate and sardines on toast.

Monocrom

The neighborhood gem of Monocrom has a lovely rotating wine and food menu. They stock a brilliant selection of wines from Catalonia, and their passion for wine is clear – they really focus on wines that set their hearts on fire. My most recent visit was one of the best experiences I’ve had there… the tapas was out of this world, paired with a chilled lighter-style red wine from Catalonia.

Bar del Pla

The brilliant Bar del Pla is one of my most recent and favorite finds, and it deserves all the praise it receives. Their staff uniform is a t-shirt stating “F*** sangria, drink natural wine!” Go figure.
Some of the best food I’ve found in recent months was served up right here; stuffed zucchini flowers and Thai muscles – dipping the bread in the sauce was mind blowing! We paired our delicious tapas with a Riesling followed by the Loxarel rosé, which is really delicious by the way. I’ve always loved the wines from this producer, they’re a leader in natural wines here in Catalonia.
The wines served in wine bars in Barcelona are made to pair with a range of delicious tapas dishes, with textures and flavors carefully chosen to complement each other to perfection. Barcelona is all about enjoying your glass of wine while sharing plates of food – it’s a wonderful way to spend an evening among friends and family. For your own taste of Spain’s exciting wine scene, join me on one of my private Barcelona wine tastings, and discover for yourself the sensational wines of Catalonia.
