Next-Gen Winemakers in Penedès: Meet the Rising Stars Behind Cisteller Wines & La Fita Vins Personals.
New Energy in Penedès: Cisteller, Fita Vins, and the Young Winemakers Shaping the Region
In a region already rich with tradition, a wave of passionate young winemakers is bringing fresh perspective and purpose to the Penedès. Among them, Jessica Madigan & Sergi Canals of Cisteller, and Martí Torrallardona of Fita Vins Personals, are leading the charge with a clear mission: make honest wines, respect the land, and breathe new life into the region's winemaking identity.
Cisteller: Precision Meets Emotion
Set in the mountainous enclave of El Sot in Subirats, Jessica and Sergi are crafting wines that speak of place and purpose. After years working in some of the world’s most prestigious wine regions, they returned to Sergi’s family estate with a shared philosophy: to produce authentic, terroir-driven wines with minimal intervention.
Founded in 2022, Cisteller quickly made waves, joining CORPINNAT, the elite collective of traditional-method sparkling wine producers. Their dedication to organic farming, hand harvesting, and estate vinification earned them a spot as the 13th winery in this prestigious group.
Their sparkling cuvées, Lucidity and Courtship, show a thoughtful, slightly rebellious edge—embracing later ripening for more complexity and ripeness, in contrast to the region's trend of early picking. Alongside the bubbles, their still wines from Xarel·lo Vermell, Malvasia de Sitges, and Manzoni Bianco are full of character, freshness, and story.
Jessica, whom I had the pleasure of meeting at the CORPINNAT Extravaganza during Barcelona Wine Week, is every bit as focused and inspiring as the wines she helps craft. Together with Sergi, they're bringing new life to the Penedès—with global experience, a hands-on approach, and an emotional connection to every bottle.
Fita Vins Personals: From Vineyard Roots to Vibrant Bottles
Then there’s Martí Torrallardona, a young winemaker with an old soul. Born in 1993 and raised under the vines in Sant Sadurní d'Anoia, Martí’s roots run deep into the Penedès. His family has farmed these lands for generations, and that quiet sense of stewardship shows in every bottle he makes under Fita Vins Personals.
Martí is the kind of winemaker you instantly connect with. He's humble, thoughtful, and completely dedicated to his craft. After studying oenology and gaining global experience—from Mendoza to Priorat, Raventós i Blanc to Can Sumoi—he came home. During the pandemic, he realised the value of his family’s vineyards and decided to stop selling their fruit and start vinifying at home.
His wines are fresh, vibrant, and beautifully minimalistic. They carry the energy of someone who knows the land intimately and chooses expression over manipulation. When you taste one of Martí’s wines, it’s like tasting his personal story: his travels, his family, and his hope for a better future in the Penedès.
Beyond his own label, Martí works with other wineries, consults, and contributes actively to VIDA Penedès, a movement of young winemakers working collaboratively to support local viticulture and give a voice to the new generation.
His wine La Vinya de la Creu is especially close to his heart—a Macabeu from his grandfather’s last remaining vineyard, made in a glass demijohn. It’s clear, direct, and emotional—just like Martí.
The Future of Penedès Tastes Like This
What unites Jessica, Sergi, and Martí isn’t just their age or talent—it’s their commitment to quality, authenticity, and a better future for the Penedès. They represent a shift toward sustainable farming, transparency in winemaking, and emotional storytelling through wine.
If you want to know where the Penedès is going—taste what these three are doing. Because the future isn’t just bright here, it’s bubbly, fresh, and beautifully honest.
