Wine Tasting in Priorat. My (latest) insiders guide.

The Journey Begins and I am off to Priorat for the second time in two weeks. Coffee and rain refreshed landscapes, we are on our way this time with my best friends from Canada.

After fueling up with a strong coffee in Barcelona, we hit the road for the long but rewarding drive to Priorat. The recent rains have transformed the region into a lush and vibrant looking Priorat, ruggered and unique with the huge Montserrat Mountain always as a landmark feature — these views are a especially breathtaking sight after four years of drought.

Winery 1. Our first stop was Celler Pasanau in the charming town of La Morera de Montsant

This winery specializes in Cabernet Sauvignon. Walking through the old vines, despite the strong winds, was a true highlight. Julia, our friendly host, led a fantastic tasting session, and my favourite wine was the youthful Ceps Nous, which includes a touch of Cabernet Franc. This is a winery not to be missed! Book via Instagram or give them a call.

We followed the tasting with a visit to Bar Unic, just a short walk away. For the second time in two weeks, I couldn’t resist their mini hamburgers, bravas, and, of course, another glass of Pasanau Ceps Nous. It’s a cozy spot with a killer wine list—definitely worth stopping by.

Winery 2. Sunset Magic at Mas d’en Gil

Next, we headed to Mas d’en Gil, an iconic Priorat winery located in Bellmunt del Priorat. You can find them at Mas d’en Gil Winery. Josep, the friendliest man in the wine business, guided us around the property, introducing us to their mule, Lola, and sharing stories about the vineyard's history.

The sunset here was absolutely magical, and the wines? Even better. I particularly loved their white wine, Coma Calcari, which stood out for its mineral-driven complexity. Visiting Mas d’en Gil felt less like a tour and more like catching up with an old friend—and that’s the kind of experience I love sharing with my clients.

Settling into Hotel Lotus and Exploring Falset

As the day wound down, we checked into Hotel Lotus in Falset. The Green Room Apartment was perfect for us—comfortable, charming, and ideally located. Dinner plans? We stocked up on local bread, cheese, and wine from Aguiló Vinatería (Carrer de Miquel Barceló, 11) and Carnisseria LLORENS (Carrer de Baix, 15-17).

For those planning a stay in Falset, I recommend making dinner reservations. Great options include:

Brichs (Carrer Sindicat, 10)

Kabbalah (also in Falset, check local listings)

Slate Wine Bar in Gratallops

The newly opened El Petit Llop, a charming restaurant in Gratallops.

Hotel Lotus itself is a must-visit, with incredible bravas and fresh salads. Their vermouth hour (12-3 PM) is a special treat!

Day Two: Coffee and a Magical Tasting at Marco Abella

The next morning began with excellent coffee at Hotel Lotus before we headed to our final winery, Marco Abella. Nestled in the heart of Priorat, this modern winery stands out for its unique winemaking techniques and stunning views.

Laura, our host, welcomed us warmly and led us through a memorable tasting session that included a gorgeous Garnacha aged in granite eggs. The breezy vineyards here felt like pure magic, and it’s one of those places I can’t wait to revisit. Find Marco Abella at Carrer de Dalt, s/n, Porrera.
